B-2 Visa Issued to Visitors for Pleasure
B-2 visa is issued to aliens whose purpose for visiting the U.S. is for pleasure, such as tourists, social visits to friends/relatives, health purposes; participants in conventions of social organizations; participants in amateur musical, sports or similar events with no remuneration, etc.
The permitted period of stay in the U.S. varies, depending on the purpose of your visit. For B-1 visa, it ranges from 1 month to 6 months. For B-2 visa, 6 months are usually given. Visitors can apply for extension of stay before the expiration date. An extension for 6 months may be granted. Holders of B-1/B-2 Visas generally cannot work in the U.S. without employment authorization.
